How to record your screen (screencasting) in ubuntu - Kazam


        There are plenty of screen recorders that you can use to record your screen in linux like (ubuntu), on of the simplest recorders is kazam screencaster.Kazam tool is a really goodA application that you can use in linux like ubuntu. 

Features of kazam :

        kazam allows you to take screenshots as well as record your screen (Screencast). you can choose which part of the screen you wanna record and whether you wanna record the screen sound or microphone sound.

        This recorder has a really simple gui, without much complications , so it's direct to the point. That simple , yet nice gui makes it easy to use.

        The output video will be VP8/WebM video format , so you can play the output video with any software that supports this video format.

        In this tutorial I'm gonna show you how to install kazam screencaster on your linux. This works for ubuntu and its derivatives like xubutnu,lubutnu,ubuntu mate and linux lite. I'll also show you how to record your screen with kazam screencaster

Steps :

  • All you need to do is to open terminal
  • Then type 'sudo apt install kazam'
  • You will be prompted to enter the root password
  • Then it'll fetch kazam package and its dependencies and install them for you.
  • if you have an older linux version and kazam fails to install that way, you will have to add the repository first:
  1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kazam-team/stable-series
  2. sudo apt-get update
  3. sudo apt install kazam
  • That will install it

How to use kazam to screencast your screen:

  • Open kazam
  • choose screencast (Selected by default)
  • Choose which area of your screen you wanna cast
  • Check whether or not you wanna record sound from speakers or microphone
  • Choose the waiting time before start of casting
  • then click on capture

  • To pause recording , click on kazam indicator in the toolbar and choose " pause recording "
  • To finish recording , click on kazam indicator in the toolbar and choose " finish recording "
  • You can choose to edit the video with any installed video editor , or save the video for later

  • You can autosave the output videos to a specific output folder in kazam:
  • Go to "file" menu then choose preferences
  • Activate autosave and choose a location to save to.
